The Rictos are one of the oldest humanoid races on Avergene. HRace: Rictos
History:
Its widely accepted amongst historians, archeologists and enthologists that the Rictos are likely one of the oldest mortal races on Avergene. Their history is oral and so its only through arcane arts, fossilized remains, and communion with the gods that the longevity of their history can be measured.
However, compared to the other mortal races it is at first glance not clear how they have survived. Other races survive through relatively rapid breeding, communal protection, aggressive resource acquisition, mastery of magic and development of technologies.
The Rictos are historically solo creatures. The only time they naturally live amongst other Rictos is during their childhood in which they stay with their mother. They have no tribal or communal drive. They use tools they find or steal. In primitive or remote cultures they stake out a wide range and defend against intrusion of other Rictos and when possible other humanoids.
In modern times they often live among other mortal races where they are mostly tolerated. However, they are seen mostly as careless and lazy and generally excluded from society. When confronted about these tendencies they sometimes claim that their relatively long life, commonly 300-500 years, and rapid healing give them a sense of “perspective” about the importance of some things.
Whether they are careless or carefree is likely a matter of the point of view.
The primitive Rictos is a wild creature due mostly to their inherent desire to be separate. Primitive Rictos can be found in even the current world of Avergene. However, amongst other societies they can be found serving as hunters and trackers. In some cases they have been known to serve as scouts for the military. When raised amongst humanity they tend to end up in the under-city and are attracted to a criminal life. This is because they are naturally contrary to authority and they tend to fight against the law more often then for it.
